Variety, New York, February 16, 1927.

The fact that Lita Grey Chaplin has recently moved into

this beautiful new home in Beverly Hills, Cal., may be

some indication of the way she feels about chances of prying

some important money off Charlie‘s roll. Lita‘s

mother and adviser, Mrs. Lillian Spicer, moved in with her.

                                              Palm Beach, Feb. 15.

Will Rodgers, making this place a regular concert stand,

spoke of his admiration for Charlie Chaplin.

At the same time the humorist mentioned he couldn‘t

go wild over movie mothers who seem able to take

better care of their daughters‘ alimony claims than they

do of their pre-marital morals.

Rogers suggested to the elite attendance that they

suspend all judgment on the film comedian‘s divorce action

until knowing more about it.“ (...)

                                             Los Angeles, Feb. 15.

Hollywood club women are reported raising a fund for

the support of Lita Grey Chaplin and her two children.

The wife of the screen comedian alleges she has not enough

for household expenses.

Mrs. M. R. Brownlee states that 20 women clubs will

be represented at a meeting Feb. 17 and will devise

means for the purpose of supporting Mrs. Chaplin and her

children and also paying their rent. $3,000 is said

to have already been pledged.

Superior Court Judge Guerin has denied the application

of Alfred Reeves to vacate a restraining order for

the production of Mrs. Chaplin‘s interest in community

property. The court ruled that if the Reeves motion

were allowed to prevail it would work an injustice against

Mrs. Chaplin in future litigation.

Judge Schmidt has sustained the demurrer filed

by Chaplin Studios, Inc., setting forth that the concern was

incorrectly made a co-defendant in Mrs. Chaplin‘s

divorce complaint.

Mrs.Chaplin‘s attorneys were given 10 days to amend

the divorce complaint to fit the demurrers. Mrs.

Chaplin will appear before Judge Walter Guerin today

to tell of alleged threats made by her husband

on the night of their separation.

The testimony will be given in connection with

a hearing of the writ to reinstate her in the Chaplin home

in Beverly Hills.“
