The Circus Scenes

„They would never have held it against Charlie“

Editorial content. „,OLD STUFF‘

      The Idiosyncrasies of Genius

      By Delight Evans“ (...)

Photo. „Charlie Chaplin in The Circus which we will

all see someday. His generosities have been

misinterpreted, his angers magnified until he stands

      our only 100% genius.“

„A GENIUS is anybody who can get away with anything –

any time, anywhere, anyhow – without being pinched.“ (...)

(...) „Geniuses are supposed to be born, not made.

Charlie Chaplin was one, right along; but it was a long time

before we found it out. Charlie had been amusing

the small boys of the world for years before a New York

newspaper writer and a famous stage actress

declared that he was an artiste – with an e; don‘t forget

that e. The papers and magazines began to yell

,Genius!‘ at Charlie; but it was all right because the small boys

never knew the difference; and even if they had,

they would never have held it against Charlie.“ (...)

      Four photos, one drawing.
