Discovering Chaplin, detail

& Glenn Tryon is showing Merna Kennedy one of those

gay night clubs. The little toy is a model of the

big night club set used in „Broadway.“ The set is all wired for

electricity, it has miniature chairs and tables and,

probably, miniature prohibition agents.

& Goes in for Psychology.

FROM the big top on the Chaplin lot in Los Angeles

come occasional indications of what the genius of the screen

will conceive next.

According to Joseph M. Schenck of United Artists‘

Corporation, „The Circus,“ Chaplin‘s new film,

makes a contribution at once intelligent and hilarious

to the psychology of fear.

It seems Charlie is called upon to walk a tight rope.

He is sturdily upheld by a thin but securely

fastened piece of wire. Gayly and with true insouciance

he flits hither and yon upon the taut rope, confident

in his security. Then the wire becomes loosened. Still Chaplin

runs daintily back and forth, no fear in his mind.

As he takes a forward step he sees the loose end

of the dangling wire before his eyes. Panic and

great fear now come to the daring fellow on the rope,

with howling monkeys below. Psychology is

benefited at the cost of Charlie‘s trousers a few feet thereafter.

Editorial content. „Charlie Chaplin‘s family is getting

so large he‘s compelled to work twice as hard, at least reports

from the Coast say he will make two pictures a year

instead of one as heretofore. When he completes The Circus

he will start on either The Dandy or The Suicide Club.“
