NEW YORK, Aug. 22. – The Gold Rush has come
to Broadway and even after packing the Strand
Theater to capacity eight times a day, people are turned away.
The house resounds with loud gusts of laughter
and everyone who is interested in pictures is urged by those
who have seen it to be sure to see this one. And yet
no one is willing to agree that this is Chaplin‘s best or even
approaching his best achievement. It is a long and
sometimes dull picture with a few priceless moments.“ (...)
„Among the spectators there were several
people who had attended the opening in Los Angeles
and it was their verdict that the New York audience
was restrained in its enthusiasm, at least, though it was more
demonstrative than audiences here usually are
