Notables to See „Modern Times,“ Comedian‘s First
Picture in Almost Five Years.
Charlie Chaplin‘s „Modern Times,“ the comedian‘s first
picture in almost five years, will have its première
tonight at the Rivoli Theatre before an audience that will include
scores of persons prominent in the screen, theatrical
and newspaper worlds. Among them will be:
Will Hays, John Otterson, Adolph Zukor, Nicholas Schenck,
Sidney Kent, Harry Warner, Major Albert Warner, Lee
Shubert, Lillian Hellman, Lord and Lady Plunkett, Edward G.
Robinson, Eddie Cantor, Burns and Allen, Douglas
Fairbanks and Mr. Fairbanks Jr., Ginger Rogers, Kitty Carlisle
and Evelyn Laye.
Besides Mr. Chaplin, the cast of the film includes
Paulette Goddard – his new leading Lady – Henry Bergman,
Chester Conklin, Stanley Sandford, Hank Mann, Louis
Natheux and Allen Garcia – some of them veterans of the
earliest Chaplin films.

Editorial content. (...) „In view of the fine manner
in which Ghost holds up at the Riv. house is sorry it scheduled
the Chaplin picture, Modern Times, for tomorrow (Thurs.).
Ghost might have gone another week. Times gets a special
premiere tonight (Wed.) at $5.50, but mostly invitations.
Riv is committed to play the Chaplin comedy for a minimum
