„Some openings are different“

Editorial content. „Chaplin Gets All-America

      Opening; No Holds Barred“

Photo. „The chief excitement on Broadway last night

centered outside and inside the Rivoli where ,Modern Times,‘

the first Chaplin feature in five years, had its premiere.“

      „By J. M. JeraulD

Some openings are different. Last night‘s start of Charlie

Chaplin‘s Modern Times was one of these. The streets

were too slippery for the mounted police to get out, and the

walking cops couldn‘t get toe holds to push the crowds

back.“ (...)

„Even the start of the newsreel of King George‘s funeral

couldn‘t get the crowd into its seats, but Mickey‘s Polo Team did.

That came close to being the Mount Everest of laughs

in Walt Disney‘s career.“

Modern Times world premiere is in New York Feb. 5, 1936

      at the Rivoli Theatre.

Rivoli Theatre, Broadway at 49th Street, New York.
