„Applause greeted the end of the picture at this performance“
Editorial content. „S. R. O. Sign Hung Out for
Chaplin By End of 1st Day
Modern Times, first Chaplin picture in five years,
went S. R. O. at the Rivoli last night after an opening morning
and afternoon of substantial but not sellout business.“ (...)
„At 7.30 o‘clock the orchestra was full and standees totaled
to 25. The balcony was peopled to capacity and a steady
stream was applying at the street box-office for
admittance. Between 7.50 and 8.10 P. M. roughly 400 tickets
at 99 cents each were sold across this box-office.
At 9.20 P. M. there was a break in the show. At that time
the Rivoli was packed with 300 standees in the rear of
the orchestra and a waiting throng gracing the stairs leading
from the lounge to the upper balcony. Applause greeted
the end of the picture at this performance.“ (...)
