A Solid Front For NRA. In banner and in numbers – several hundred strong – the United Artists contingent did
an „eyes left“ as it passed the reviewing stand at New York‘s demonstration in allegiance to the National Recovery
movement. In the stand were General Hugh Johnson, administrator
of the NRA, Governor Lehman, Mayor O‘Brien, and
other dignitaries. The amusement section made a gala showing.

Charles Chaplin breaks his long silence to offer his first
public address since the Liberty Loan campaigns during
World War, making an appeal for support of the N.R.A. „Buy
Now“ drive. The comedian‘s address will be heard
over a nation-wide Columbia network and released locally
at 7.30 p. m. (...)
Enrico Martinelli, noted operatic tenor, comes on the air
fifteen minutes before the Chaplin address with vocal
contributions to the American Legion program on KFAC.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24. – (AP) – Hollywood‘s greater
portrayer of pantomime who still believes there is a
place for the silent motion picture, Charles Chaplin, broke his
silence last night to deliver an address in behalf of the
National Recovery Act.
,The unemployed have nothing,‘ said the actor in a radio
address broadcast over a nation-wide hook-up, ,but
there are 90,000,000 people in America, myself included,
who have means – who have the purchasing power
to buy now and who can help to put put those unemployed back
to work. After all, we are not making any sacrifices.
On the contrary, it is to our advantage if we buy now, because
prices are bound to rise later on.‘“ (...)
