of Hollywood was invited to the Clark Gable

party in August 1933. When the Beverly Wilshire Hotel

opened in 1928, it was the second major hotel

to attract Hollywood celebrity partygoers to Beverly Hills.

The Gable party included, from left to right, Eleanor

Holm, Howard Hughes, Sandra Shaw, and Universal Studio‘s

head of production, Carl Laemmle Jr.
